Jinty McGinty in 'The Great Fort William Shinty Incident !"
Jinty McGinty, Fort
William's star Shinty player, has been involved in a serious incident during
the final of the "MacDougall's Fresh Milk Delivered Daily"
championship. The trophy, a finely
crafted piece of silverware modelled in the style of an engorged udder, was
within reach, when Jinty was involved in a collision in the last minute of the
game. You are the lead first aider and
get a call on the radio to say that Jinty is down and out, and you race to the
pitch to investigate.
You arrive there and you determine,
from discussing the incident with the onlookers, and from a quick examination,
that Jinty is concussed after sustaining a severe knock to the head. In addition, you spot some nasty swelling on
her left ankle, and the referee explains that she 'fell awkwardly', and so you
suspect some soft tissue damage.
From your course readers, describe,
IN DETAIL, the following ...
1. What signs and symptoms led to
the conclusion that she was, indeed, concussed?
2. How would you treat the soft
tissue damage on her ankle?
3. What do the current 'return to
play guidelines' suggest should be the correct course of action to take in
light of the concussion/head injury.
